Lina Valdez

Obituary of Lina Valdez

Lina (Adelina) Valdez, age 92, passed away on May 15, 2023.

She was born in Lucero, NM and lived in Las Vegas, NM for a time prior to moving to Albuquerque where she lived the majority of her life.

Lina’s greatest loves were God and her family. She was a member of the Church of Christ where she was active for years. She loved teaching bible classes, organizing activities and assisting with the church bulletin. When she could no longer attend services she enjoyed having bible classes on the phone. She remained steadfast in her faith and always welcomed prayers and loved singing hymns.

She was the heart of the home and leaves behind a large family who miss her greatly. She joins many family that have gone before her but those especially dear are her children who were gone too soon; Diane Chavez, Tony Gomez, Sonny Gomez, Sandra Lucero and grandson Donnie Jr Valdez.

She will be remembered for her love for her family especially her children and grandchildren, her generosity, her feistiness, an infectious laugh and the best hugs. We all have the fondest memories of growing up visiting her home for any and all occasions and the ever-present scent of fresh tortillas, her famous fresh baked banana nut cake and if in season, fresh roasted chile. She made sure we all were hugged, fed and left with food so we would be taken care of. She was compassionate, hilarious, ornery and giving. Sarcastic, loving and playful and so much more. Most importantly, she was loved.

Her son Rick Valdez and daughter Natalie Gonzalez would like to share their appreciation to the medical professionals and staff at UNM hospital and Ladera Genesis who helped make this difficult journey a bit easier through their commitment to her well-being. They would also like to thank their spouses Yvonne Valdez and Mario Gonzalez who loved their mom like their own and were instrumental in her care. The love, visits and laughter mean more than we can express.

We would like to invite you to join us in a celebration of her life on June 2, 2023 at the Riverside Funeral Home Chapel 225 San Mateo Blvd, Albuquerque 87108. Doors will open at 10:00 AM and the service will begin promptly at 10:30 AM.
