Obituary of Carmen Gallegos

Carmen passed in peace at her home in Albuquerque at the age of 91. She was born in Las Vegas, NM.

She joined the US Army and was the first woman ever to be elected and serve as Vice Commander. After her service in the Korean War, she married Alfonso Gallegos Jr. and worked for 31 years until her retirement as an X-Ray Technician.

She is preceded in death by her husband Alfonso Jr, father Carlos, mother Corina, son Alfonso III and her sister Marie. Loving mother to Kathryn and Carla. Mother in-law to Natalia. Proud grandma to Alfonso IV (Chrystell), Bianca, Krystal (Jeremiah), Steve Jr (Melissa), Diego, DeAngelo (Jennifer). Adoring Great Grandma to 2. Devoted sister to Dora, Josie, Cecelia, Ida, Mary Alice, and Mary Lou and will be missed by many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Services will be held Tuesday April 25, 2023, at 10am at Holy Ghost Church 833 Arizona SE Albuquerque, NM 87108 with burial to follow at 1:30pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery 501 N Guadalupe St. Santa Fe, NM 87501 with a reception from 3pm-5pm at American Legion Post 100 at 424 Candelaria Rd NW Albuquerque, NM 87107.
