Obituary of Walter Edward Reid

Walter “Rocky” E. Reid was born on September 13, 1942 in Chicago, IL and passed away surrounded by loved ones on January 24, 2023.

Walter’s family moved to Albuquerque in September 1953, after which he attended Sandia High, and served as a Navy Corpsman from 1961-1963. He was also a singer in a band part time until mid 1964. Subsequently, Walter began a life-long career as a salesman with several retail firms. He was a natural salesman, and could sell anything to anybody.

Walter was full of life, loved music, old movies and telling stories. He had a great sense of humor and was a social butterfly. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

The eldest of four children, Walter was preceded in death by mother Jean Reid, father, Walter T. Reid and brother David Reid. He is survived by: daughters, Pamela Gaddy, Samantha Reid-Garcia (Gene); granddaughter Terésa Reid, grandson Tristan Zahn; sisters Janis Chafins (Kevin), Nancy Montaño (Patrick); many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Walter’s life will take place on March 18, 2023 at 2:00pm at St. Paul’s Methodist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Vernon Baker.

The family requests that trees be planted in lieu of sending flowers.

A private burial will take place in Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
