Obituary of Sotero Girard Maestas

Sotero “Essie” Girard Maestas, age 41, born July 17, 1980, was called home to Heaven on January 30, 2022 to reunite with his grandmothers Priscilla and Marcella, his father Frank, his Uncle Pete, and little brother Daniel, who we all knew as “Baby D,” and babies Madison and Hailey.

Essie is survived by his sons Sotero Jr. and Carmine, his grandfathers Edward and Sotero, mother Carla, stepfather Robert, brothers Frank and Michael, step brothers and sisters Mario, Adam, Monica and Natalie, his long-time love, best friend and girlfriend of sixteen years, Michelle, daughter Alma and her husband Jonathan, son Danny and his girlfriend, Sophia, daughter Angelica and her fiancé Isaiah, grandchildren Juanito, Santiago, Elijah, and Isabella, and uncles and aunts Edward and Huera, Charles and April, Armando and Bennie, Benji and Mercy and Pamela, many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers, all of whom he loved very much.

All who knew Essie, knew he would help anyone that needed it. He liked making people smile and was a very loving and caring person. There was never a dull moment when he was around, and he was always the life of the party. Essie was a long-time, diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved to play practical jokes on family and friends and make us laugh! Even on the worst days of his illness, he would carry on as if nothing was wrong. He fought very hard to stay with us until he couldn’t anymore. God needed another Angel, and although it hurts to not have him here with us, he will always be in our hearts and watching over us. He will be missed dearly and will never be forgotten.

Essie will be cremated and a memorial service, with his urn present, will be held on March 16, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Riverside Chapel at 225 San Mateo Blvd. NE.
